Myers. He is the Assistant
Director and Agriculture
Program Leader at the
University of Maryland
Extension. Dave is a resident
of Anne Arundel County and
is currently the agricultural
extension educator for
both Anne Arundel and
Prince George’s Counties.
His research is just one
small piece to his overall
production. Dave is also
responsible for all field crop
and livestock agriculture
with an emphasis on fruit
and vegetable production.
Dave’s interest in agriculture
began in his 6th grade
fermentation science class.
He recalled a field trip to a
brewery off the Baltimore
beltway. The taps were
wide open, and the teachers
assumed the students
would enjoy pretzels and
soda, but they were wrong.
The class of 6th graders
tasted all the beer! That is
a fond memory for Dave
as he reminisces about the
beginning of his love for
all things agriculture.
His knowledge of
agriculture is pivotal in
the experimental success
of both fruits and hops.
Dave’s history of the region
allows him to see change
as it occurs in the business.
He grew up working on
the dairy farm that today
is owned by the Maryland
Extension. His research
is conducted at the Upper
Marlboro Research and
Education Center, also
home to his fruit and
vegetable research trials.
At the age of 19, Dave
started his job at the US
Naval Academy Dairy Farm.
When he graduated from the
University of Maryland with
a degree in Agronomy, he
