BREWING
Excitement is
It wasn’t very long ago that the list
of Howard County breweries was just
one name long. But over the past
few years, craft brewing has taken
off in this part of Maryland, and
county visitors and residents now
have more than a handful of options
for enjoying unique, local beers.
Located in an old storefront that
doubles as a brewpub,
Ellicott Mills
Brewing Company
on Main Street
in Ellicott City is the grandfather of
Howard County breweries, crafting
beers since 1997. Specializing in
central European-style lagers, EMBC
also offers international and
American styles to its customers.
Manor Hill Brewing
came to
Ellicott City in 2014, spawned by
the successful Victoria Gastro Pub.
Manor Hill focuses on high-quality,
seasonal ingredients. The results,
they say, are “aromatic, hop-
forward, farmhouse-style beers.”
You can find
Jailbreak Brewing
Company
beers at bars and
restaurants throughout Maryland,
but the easiest way to enjoy
them is by visiting their recently
expanded tasting room in Laurel,
where visitors can sip on one
of the Jailbreak brew team’s
latest offerings while watching
them create their next batch.
HowardOnTap
Howard County Tourism & Promotion has created a fun
way for local beer lovers to explore the area’s burgeoning
craft drink scene. The
HowardOnTap Craft Brew Trail
and corresponding HowardOnTap app not only provide
visitors with helpful information about breweries, brewpubs
and other drink-related attractions in and around Howard
County, but also turn visiting these places into a fun game.
Like visiting these places wasn’t fun enough already!
When trail goers visit at least four
stops, they are rewarded with a
unique HowardOnTap souvenir
beer glass. Visitors can keep
track of their stops via the
app (where a fun beer
glass fills on their screen
each time they alert the
app they’ve visited a new
location) or by saving the
receipt from each location.
