NEIGHBORHOODS
WESTERN
HOWARD COUNTY
A glimpse of
WESTERN HOWARD COUNTY IS
DISTINGUISHED BY ITS BEAUTIFUL, OPEN
AREAS AND RICH AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE.
Among the more interesting sights
in Western Howard County are
the surviving
Old National Pike
Milestones
still found along
Route 40. These markers were
originally placed at each mile along
the “Old Pike” to alert travelers
to their distance from Baltimore.
Created out of gneiss from Ellicott
City, the surviving markers are
maintained by the National Park
Service and are on the National
Register of Historic Places.
What better way to enjoy
the beauty of Howard
County than through the
majesty of a hot air balloon
ride?
Friendship Hot Air
Balloon Company
offers
romantic champagne flights for
two and several other trip options.
With Mother Nature guiding the
way, every experience is different,
and you never know where
your captain may take you.
Located in West Friendship, the
Living
Farm Heritage Museum
strives to
preserve the agricultural way of life
that is so important to the area’s history.
They do this by providing educational
programs, demonstrations,
and displays that tell the story
of Western Howard County.
Western Howard County
may be well known
for its livestock, but that
doesn’t mean you can’t
find delicious vegan food
there too.
Great Sage
in Clarksville uses only
organic ingredients and
features a bold menu with
an international flair.
From early June when the first
strawberry crop ripens until the apple
harvest at season’s end,
Larriland
Farm
provides visitors with
the freshest pick-your-own fruits
and vegetables. Located in
Woodbine and serving the area
since 1973, the farm is family
operated and family friendly.
This year will mark the
72
nd
year for the popular
Howard County
Fair
