monument in Maryland, the third in the
United States. It honors Private Aquila
Randall, who was killed in a skirmish on
September 12, 1814.

Historical Society
Since 1959, the Historical Society of
Baltimore County (HSBC) has been
housed in the County’s third and last
Almshouse (built in 1872), located
in Cockeysville. HSBC’s mission is
to collect, preserve and interpret the
rich history of Baltimore County. The
Almshouse was once home to the poor,
indigent, and mentally ill. Today’s visitors
to the Almshouse can see 9,000 museum
artifacts, 8,000 historic photographs, a
4,000-volume library, 500 historic maps
and atlases, and hundreds of archival
collections.

The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame
and Museum is located at US Lacrosse
headquarters in Sparks, Md. Featuring
the Richie Moran Hall of Fame Gallery,
the museum pays tribute to the
sport’s history and legendary figures
through artifacts, videos and interactive
experiences.
Featured exhibits explore the game’s
Native American origins, examine the
process of making a traditional wooden
stick, honor the most recent NCAA
champions and Tewaaraton winners,
showcase historical Team USA jerseys,
and show samples of the evolution of
equipment.
The museum is open Monday through
Friday (9 am to 4 pm) and for extended
hours when games are being played on
the adjacent Tierney Field. Admission is
free of charge.

The
Ballestone-Stansbury House
is
an historic home located on Cedar Point
between Back and Middle rivers in Es-
sex. Portions of the house were built dur-
ing the late 18th and early 19th centu-
ries on a track of land that was sold and
passed to several owners until the cur-
rent farmhouse was built on the property
by Isaac Stansbury in 1816. The house
is open for visitors at various times of the
year.
