Exhibits and displays of photographs,
artifacts, memorabilia, and graphic pan-
els of both Maryland and U.S. Negro
Leagues are showcased on each level of
the library’s three floors. The Museum is
named for “Bert” Simmons, who played
for the legendary Baltimore Elite Giants in
the 1950s.

Baltimore County
Many are familiar with the naval bom-
bardment of Fort McHenry and the writ-
ing of our national anthem in 1814, but
few know of the British land attack in
southeast Baltimore County – the Battle
of North Point. Historic sites from that
battle are destinations on the newly des-
ignated Star-Spangled Banner National
Historic Trail. Todd’s Inheritance Historic
Site, on North Point Road, was pivotal
to the defense of Baltimore in 1814.
The actual Battlefield is divided by North
Point Road with one acre, known as Bat-
tle Acre, dedicated to those who fought
