A Horse Lover’s Haven

Steeplechase and Timber

Racing

The beauty of the countryside, the ex-

citement, and the festive atmosphere

make steeplechase and timber racing

in Baltimore County must-attend events

during the region’s beautiful spring and

fall seasons. Don’t miss out on this

unique tradition, dating back to the first

running of the Maryland Hunt Cup in

1894. Experience these fun full days of

tailgating and picnicking with family and

friends as fans observe the race from

their perches on slopes above the action.

As home to over nine thousand horses, it’s no surprise that Baltimore

County exemplifies the Maryland equestrian tradition. More than 140

picturesque Thoroughbred horse farms dot the landscape, including

historic Sagamore Farm, once built and owned by the Vanderbilt family.
