Kindred Spirits

Social Club

A diagnosis of a memory disorder can be overwhelming

for the individual directly affected and his/her family. In

the early stage, one has an opportunity to plan and to work

through the feelings associated with the changes that will

come. It is during this time that the Kindred Spirits Social

Club can provide a place for the individual to interact

with others walking that same path, a place in which new

relationships can be formed in a small group setting that

provides educational, supportive and social opportunities in a

stress-free, fun and interesting environment.

At Kindred Spirits Social Club members enjoy speakers,

music, art, exercise, yoga,Yo-chi, outings, and much more. The

Social Club does not replace any medical treatment plan or

program. It is a transition group. Members remain active as

long as they can participate fully in the daily activities of the

program. In order to insure that the group is meeting the

needs of all participants, members are re-evaluated every six

months, sooner if the staff observes a change in the person’s

ability to function in the Club.

Changes that may require re-evaluation or transition to

another program are:

Inability to understand or contribute to

group discussion in a meaningful way

Inability to stay on task

Difficulty sitting in the group during the day

Disruptive behavior

Incontinence requiring assistance with

toileting on a regular basis

Information about changes is shared with the caregiver. The

staff works with the member and family to ensure a smooth

transition to an appropriate program consistent with the

care plan. The member and caregiver are also provided with

community resource information and assistance.
