The Village in Howard (TVIH) is a member-based

COMMUNITY of Howard County residents 55 and older

who want to continue to live independently in the homes

and neighborhoods they know. Membership benefits can

include, not only various social and cultural activities, but

access to “neighbor helping neighbor” services such as

transportation, home repairs and assistance with simple

house maintenance. These benefits enable members to

actively age in place.

As volunteer involvement is a cornerstone of the

community, TVIH incorporates a broad range of

opportunities for both member and community

volunteers. As a community, it is important that members

participate and share their skills with other members, for

example, a member volunteer may be able to grocery shop

for another member who cannot get out of their home, or

assist with gardening chores.

TVIHfunctions as anall-volunteernon-profitmembership

organization governed by a Board of Directors and

launched operations in January 2015. TVIH is managed

by the board and assisted by committees. This past year

TVIH hired an Executive Director and bookkeeper.

Participation in the Village to Village network, an

international movement helping communities establish

and manage their own Villages, provides a valuable

resource to learn about other villages.

The Village in Howard has two membership levels.

Associate members enjoy participation in social,

educational and cultural programs. These activities could

include dining out, local travel, Sneakers and Coffee

walking group, attending a lecture on a variety of topics

such as rain gardens or Maryland History, and a small

special interest group like bridge or our book group. For

annual fees please contact TVIH.

Full members participate in these same activities but can

request service benefits which could include short-term

(i.e. post-surgery) transportation for those unable to

drive or use public transportation, simple household tasks

performed by volunteers such as changing light bulbs or

batteries, hanging curtain rods, gardening tasks, etc…

For Full Membership fees, please call TVIH.

Memberships are good for one year from the day

you join.

Members can engage in Forums, an online connection

to other TVIH members for sharing information

and resources Members are also linked by a monthly

newsletter, active use of the website, and of course

participation in the many activities. Visit our website
