Dear Readers,

Thanks for picking up a copy of the Spring/Summer 2016

Maryland

Wine Press

.

Spring in the vineyard is my favorite time of year. The landscape of

bare vines begins to green one step at a time…first with budbreak, then

the growth of leaves, and soon thereafter, fruit set. It’s an incredibly

peaceful time to visit a vineyard. In the cellar, last year’s white wines are

nearing bottling, while the reds may be just settling in for aging.

Our Passport Experience in February was a huge success, bringing

visitors to wineries across the state. Many wineries offered preview

tastings of reds from barrels, while others offered fun, artful experiences

to warm visitors in mid-winter.

Our events keep diversifying to showcase all that Maryland wine has

to offer. The fifth annual Winter Wine was held at the B&O Railroad

Museum in Baltimore. Top wines were presented alongside great food…

and historic trains: a runaway success!

Decanter: A Festival of Wine & Racing moves to Laurel Park on April

16, and Wine in the Woods returns May 21 & 22 at a newly remodeled

and landscaped Symphony Woods in Columbia. See

Marylandwine.com

for updated event listings for great experiences throughout the spring and

summer.

This edition of

Wine Press

focuses on the wineries of the Patuxent

Wine Trail, an ambassador from the region, and highlights of a great wine

shop and restaurant that supports local wine.

Over 65 of our wineries are open for tastings and tours, and many

offer special events throughout the year. Check out our winery and event

listings on

www.Marylandwine.com

for hours, directions and more.

We hope you enjoy this edition of the

Wine Press

.

Cheers,

Kevin Atticks
