RESIDENTS
The Howard County
school system, widely
recognized for its
excellence, is a source
of tremendous local
pride. The county’s
public school system
consistently ranks as
one of the highest
among the state’s 24
school districts, based
on student performance on the demanding
Maryland School Assessment test.
Howard County students score
above the national averages on
standardized tests, and more than
92 percent of graduates continue
their education beyond high school.
The county is home to numerous college
and university campuses and secondary
education opportunities. Colleges include
the award-winning Howard Community College and
satellite campuses for Johns Hopkins University,
University of Maryland Baltimore County, Loyola
College of Maryland and University of Maryland
University College. In addition to its schools,
Howard County takes pride in its library system,
which was identified by Library Journal as the
best library system among the
21,000 public and academic
systems in North America.
