The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks

maintains more than

50 parks and 25 historic

sites

. Most parks are free to the

public and feature paths for walkers,

runners, bicyclists, and even equestrian

riders, not to mention boat rentals,

playgrounds, a cricket field, an archery

range, tennis and basketball courts,

pavilions, multi-purpose fields, and more.

If you prefer to chase a little white

ball when you go on your nature

walks, Howard County offers many

choices for the golfing enthusiast as

well.

Hobbit’s Glen

in Columbia is a

popular private option. Public courses

include Columbia’s

Fairway Hills

Waverly Woods

in Woodstock, and

Willow Springs

in West Friendship.

The Howard County Department of

Timbers at Troy

, a

public course located in Elkridge.

Ellicott City’s

Turf Valley

provides

the option of two different

championship golf courses on

its 1,000-acre site that caters to

everything from corporate retreats

and destination weddings to romantic

weekends and family vacations.
