Miss Howard County Farm Bureau contests, as well
as the Iron Chef competition, taking place Thursday
afternoon in the 4-H Hall.This annual event held
at the fair invites the public to watch various teams
put their creativity and culinary skills to the test.
Each year, 3-4 teams are given farm-fresh ingredients,
donated by local, Howard County farms, to create
XLIMV FIWX QIEP JSV E GSPPIGXMSR SJ I\TIVX NYHKIW HYVMRK
the Iron Chef competition. In previous years, teams
have included groups of restaurants, 4-H clubs and in
2015,“Dads with kids.” Ingredients provided consist
of a main dish of some sort of protein (meat), as well
a number of fruits, vegetables and spices for teams
to incorporate into their meals.Teams and dishes are
evaluated for best presentation, best teamwork, best
meat dish, best vegetable dish and an overall winner.
Also fun to watch are the number of livestock shows
that take place throughout the week, where 4-H’ers

into raising their animals. Aside from 4-H animals, there
is also the opportunity for children to see and pet
baby animals of all sorts in the “Kids & Critters” barn.
In addition to all the food, live entertainment and animals,

entries, ranging from quilts, jams, jellies, baked goods, crafts,
painting, drawing and even Lego creations, are among
a multitude of categories that are judged for prizes.
