Brewers. They were also

the first to take advantage

of the new licensing law by

opening the first Maryland

farm brewery in 2013:

their very own Milkhouse

Brewery. Following

Milkhouse Brewery, 10

other farm breweries have

opened across Maryland

with the numbers only

expected to rise.

The economic growth

in the industry, which

prompted the law for

Maryland farms to now be

able to become breweries

themselves, means many

things. It shows that the

increase in demand around

Maryland for craft beers

and the demand for local

ingredients is a real thing

and here to stay. With

it making more sense

than ever for Maryland

farmers to use their own

product and begin brewing

themselves, we can expect

to see the number of farm

breweries to continue to

rise. This is exciting not

just for the industry and

Maryland’s economy, but

also for consumers who

get to enjoy the continuing

increase in variety and

quality of craft beer. This

development in recent years

shows not only is Maryland

beer good for Maryland,

but Maryland hops are

good for Maryland beer.
