ith an interest in craft
beer sparked more than
12 years ago, one of
three partners, Scott
Coleman, wanted to
turn a hobby into a business. Cushwa
Brewing Company is up and coming
with plans for a big future. Just having
two part-time owners Scott Coleman
and Marcus Thomas, they didn’t
feel like they could open a brewery
CUSHWA
until they found a third partner who could
work full time. Luckily, while they were
perfecting their craft and developing a solid
business plan, Cushwa’s unnamed third
partner came into the picture. A full-time
partner in the mix, Cushwa’s planning
and implementation began in full swing.
Some of you may be wondering where the
name Cushwa comes from? Some of you
from western Maryland may be guessing
it is from the Cushwa Basin that is nearby
and home to the partners of the brewery.
The three partners went into this business
with everything they had. Only using their
personal assets and not taking out any loans,
they found a great location in an industrial
area in Williamsport, Maryland. Owners of
Cushwa have seen lots of support from the
local Maryland community; from the bar
top to the bricks lining the walls, almost
everything is local to Maryland and done
by donation or by the owners themselves.
