Welcome

To Howard

County!

As a lifelong resident, I have always

known that Howard County is a great

place to live, work and visit. In September

2016, Columbia was given the #1 spot

on

Money

magazine’s list of the “Best

Places to Live” in America. In fact,

Columbia and Ellicott City together have

placed in the top ten on this national list

for most of the last decade. Whether you are passing through or

call Howard County your home, you will find that this guide from the

Howard County Office of Tourism and Promotion showcases the varied

opportunities for education, culture and recreation in our community.

Howard County is known for great schools, an award-winning library system,

a world class arts scene, and many varied parks and cultural opportunities.

We have much to offer, from the growing, urban center of Columbia to the

beautiful vistas of farms and open space in the county’s western reaches.

One of our jewels - Main Street in Old Ellicott City – remains on the

mend from historic flooding in July 2016. We have worked hard to

recover and rebuild, demonstrating our resiliency. That spirit and pride

in community is a highlight of the experience in Howard County.

For existing and potential residents, I invite you to learn about the many

resident services Howard County offers. From aging in place to after-school

care, there are resources for all ages, backgrounds, needs and interests.

We take pride in our past and delight in our evolving future, whether it is

development in Columbia or rebuilding Ellicott City. We value those who

help us prosper and hope you find many opportunities to participate.
