The 4 ½miles of trails, Walnut Pond, the Stream of Life, the natural springs and forests are open everyday from dawn until dusk. Just park at the gate and walk in. Call for hours for the Nature Center’s Interpretive Building. Be sure to pick up a trail map upon arrival if you plan on hiking. Whether you like to kayak, boat, fish, hike, picnic, bird watch, play tennis, or just appreciate nature’s beauty, Piney Run Park is yours to enjoy. Its clear waters are surrounded by 500 acres of beautiful woods, meadows and open space. The Piney Run Nature Center is home to dozens of exhibits, including live reptiles, injured hawks, vultures, and owls. Other resources in the parks include 4 multi- purpose fields, 4 basketball courts, 7 tennis courts, climbing boulders, 6 pavilions that are available for rent, 2 plazas and a skate park. Fishing Important Note: All persons age 16 and over must have a fishing license. Locations • Beaver Run Watershed * – upstream of Rt. 91. • Bennett Cerf Pond (1 acre) – off Rt. 27 within Penguin Random House Industrial Park. • Double Pike Creek Park – Rt. 77 at County line in Detour. • Lake Hashawha • Landon C. Burns Pond * (4.7 acres) – West of Rt. 32 near Center Street. • Liberty Reservoir • Patapsco River * – mainstem from Rt. 32 at Sykesville downstream to its confluence with the North Branch Patapsco River. • Monocacy River • Morgan Run * – one of the best trout streams in Maryland. This area provides a year-round trout fishing opportunity. Special regulations require all anglers to have a fishing license and trout stamp. Fishing is limited to the use of artificial lures only. The use and possession of bait is prohibited.
